Change your Air-Twirler and let him dance

We give you some ideas to find solutions for three technical problems:

  • support
  • rotatable suspension
  • rotor

2

The box as a support:

  • Put a grill-skewer through the sidewall of the box (not only through the bottom).

  • Fix the magnet at the nut. Bring them together as you can see in the picture.

3

The PET bottle as a support:

  • Use a PET bottle as a support.

  • Adhesive tape on both sides reinforces the angles of the blue drinking straw.

4

The rotatable suspension:

  • Pierce a tiny hole into the blue drinking straw with a nail, so that the fixing pin can rotate well.

  • Push the fixing pin through the yellow drinking straw.

  • If the drinking straw glides from the fixing pin, you can put adhesive tape or a piece of foam rubber onto the end of the pin.

5

The rotor:

  • Build a two armed propeller from thick drawing paper. Follow the images to the left, from left to right and top to bottom.

  • Transfer the template to the right to thick drawing paper.

  • Cut out along the solid-lines

  • Attach a balsa block to the center of the rotor with glue

  • Fold up the trailing edges of the rotor

  • Pierce the middle point with a needle

7

  • Compare different rotors of different sizes and out of different materials.

Lasciatevi ispirare dal film con la turbina rumorosa:

                      • Look for suitable light sources, interesting places for suspension, and appropriate possibilities for fixation.

                      • Make a noisy sound machine out of your air-twirler.

                      • Link several parts to a mobile with fan drive.

                      Linking solar cells

You can link several solar cells just as you can link batteries. Simply link each plus of the one cell with the minus of the other one.
This way, you can benefit from the energy of several solar cells.
                      A single solar cell generates 0.5 volt (V). Therefore, 2 cells give you 1 V and 3 cells 1.5 V, like common batteries (mono-cells).

                      Ideal light irradiation

For a good output, solar cells need to be oriented to the light source in an optimal way.
How do you have to proceed?
